Purple Night Romania 2024: A Record-Breaking Celebration of Inclusion

Purple Night Romania 2024: A Record-Breaking Celebration of Inclusion

On December 3, 2024, Romania shone brighter than ever as 124 institutions from across the country united to light up their buildings in vibrant violet for Purple Night Romania. Organised by the Romanian Diversity Chamber of Commerce (RDCC), this year’s edition marked a show of solidarity for the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.

The inclusivity campaign saw public and private landmarks lit up in purple to raise awareness about the nearly one million people with disabilities in the country. From city halls and embassies to multinational corporations and cultural hubs, participants stood together to promote greater accessibility, inclusion, and opportunity for all.

Purple Night Romania 2024 attracted an extraordinary breadth of engagement, spanning multiple sectors.

Esthera Anghelescu, Vice President RDCC and Recruiting and Employer Branding Director at Kaufland Romania, said:

“For Kaufland Romania, participating in the Purple Night Romania campaign has already become a tradition. It is an opportunity to communicate our commitment to the inclusion of people with disabilities through the ACCES program, in a symbolic and innovative way: by lighting up our headquarters in purple. While actions are what truly matter, they cannot happen without an initial phase of awareness and education. Initiatives like this send a strong message from all the organisations involved in the Purple Night campaign: people with disabilities need greater visibility. This is an important issue for Romanian society as well as for the business environment. Inclusion and equality must become the norm and only through unity and strong messages can we improve the lives of people with disabilities. We need constant involvement, visible messages and sustained actions to make a real difference.”

Social media buzzed with posts using the hashtag #PurpleNightRomania, highlighting personal stories and organisational pledges. Key moments from Purple Night Romania 2024 include:

  • United for change: Landmarks and buildings across Romania were bathed in violet, creating a unified display of solidarity and raising awareness for inclusion.

While Purple Night Romania 2024 has set new benchmarks, the RDCC emphasises that the campaign is a stepping stone, not a final destination.
